On Tuesday 4th December Year 4 pupils had an immersive ‘Egyptian Day’ to enhance their learning about ancient civilizations in history.  The pupils were able to come into school dressed as ancient Egyptians and all lessons were Egyptian-themed – even hockey with Mr Green, which had some “walk like an Egyptian” warm ups!

One of the most memorable activities on the day involved the children in role as trainee priests of Anubis, “mummifying” a Barbie doll and creating a shoebox sarcophagus, as part of an investigation into Egyptian religious beliefs.

The Year 4 classes also worked in teams to solve an escape room-style set of challenges based on a secret second tomb, rumoured to be located behind the tomb of Tutankhamun. This involved some great communication skills, translation of heiroglyphs – and a lot of resilience when the puzzles got tricky!

Andrei, Puffin Class, said, “This day has seemed like it was centuries long – but in a really, really good way!”
